Wake Up Call

The above line speaks volumes about the famous Australian city. Traditionally Australia has been a favourite destination for students as well as tourists through out the world. It got the reputation as a safe destination for international students, number of Indian students enrolling into the Australian universities have been increasing substantially in the past few years. High quality education and flamboyant life style attracted number of Indians to make Australia and other foreign countries as their second home, thanks to the “economic crunch in the USA”.
All in a sudden………… Attacks on Indians in Melbourne, that too racial attacks.
As a routine procedure, everyone including the Prime minister of India Mr. Manmohan Singh and leader of the opposition Mr. L. K. Advani have condemned the racist attacks on Indians. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna is in touch with the Australian Prime Minister Mr. Kevin. Despite the protest and subsequent assurances given by the Australian Prime Minister on Monday, acts of racism continued unabated in Melbourne. It raises serious concern over the safety of the Indians residing in Australia.
And everyone knows that life must go on, spare a thought for the poor Indians in Australia, they will continue their protest for few more days and eventually this episode will come to an end.
But………………………
Is there anything that our Indian government must and should learn from this episode??????????………………..Yes, in fact a lot.
First questions that arises is, “what if the same ugly thing starts in other countries”- this is very much possible, it started to prevail in UK already. The so called Indian government should take something from the old saying -”Prevention is better than the cure”. Start analyzing the roots of this ugly episode and take necessary steps to prevent this in future.
The first and foremost thing one should take into consideration is “why this many number of Indian students are migrating to foreign countries???????”. what is the strong force that is driving them ??????????????.
Government need not to bother about the individuals (Professionals) who are running behind the foreign dreams, that is purely personal and they are solely responsible for the consequences. When it comes down to the students, The reason for majority of Indian Students opting foreign countries as their favourite destination is the quality of education and industrial exposure which is in offer for them (of course money too) .
This chapter should prompt the government of this country to take it as an opportunity to increase the number of higher learning institutes, both in terms of quality and quantity.
