Important Difference Between Academic And General IELTS

18 Sep, 2009  |  Written by sudheer  |  under IELTS

Probably this is the most important question, which creeps into your mind as soon as you think of taking an IELTS exam. Academic module is mainly for those, who are trying to pursue their education in an English speaking country; where as General module is for those, who are trying to migrate to an English speaking country.

Both the modules have got a scoring pattern from 0 to 9. Both the modules have four sections namely: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The only difference between the General and the Academic modules is the reading and writing sections. In Academic reading you will generally face topics that might come across you in your future studies, where as general module covers more general passages such as those you might find in newspapers.

You need to write two essays in both general as well as in academic modules. In general writing you will be asked to write a formal, informal, or semi-formal personal letter with some information provided. Where as in Academic module you will be asked to write an essay by interpreting information from a diagram, graph, or chart etc. The second essay is quite similar in both the modules.
