Book Review on The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari
This is an absolutely fantastic book written by renowned author Robin Sharma. This book is a fable about fulfilling your dreams and reaching your destiny. The message in the book is very powerful, inspiring and gives you step by step approach to living with greater courage, balance and joy. This book pays attention on how to improve self-leadership, personal responsibility and spiritual enlightenment.
A Wonderfully crafted fable, “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” tells the extraordinary story of Julian Mantle. As we go into the story, this fable has two main characters, one of them is a high-profile criminal lawyer Julian, who was forced to confront the spiritual crisis of his out-of-balance life and the other one is his friend John, who adored him and wanted to be like him in all perspectives. It also has many other important characters in the lights of Yogi Raman and sages of sivana.
Once Julian suffers from a massive heart attack, he decided to give up his law practice and heads to India where his restless soul was pacified and he was transformed into a jolly youthful personality with abundant energy. He relates his experience with the great Indian Yogi Raman who in turn reveals the techniques of mastering one’s mind. He realizes that the fundamental truth that the only limits in life are that we set ourselves. Julian emphasizes on discipline which can be attained by consistently performing small acts of courage and then tells john that by the time more people figure out what they really want and how to go about it, it is too late stressing the importance of time.
One quotation which deeply influenced me was
“When you inspired by some great purpose, some
Extraordinary project, all of your thoughts break their
Bonds: your mind transcends limitations, your
Consciousness expands in every direction and you find
Yourself in a new great and wonderful world. Dormant
Forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover
Yourself to be a greater person than you ever dreamed
Yourself to be.”
His Five step method to make desires come true is very practical;
Step1: Having a clear vision of outcome
Step2: Cultivate self-discipline and act courageously
Step3: Value time as your most important commodity
Step4: Never set a goal without attaching a deadline
Step5: Never give up and live life fully, one day at a time.
This book is well organized in thirteen chapters and the flow in the book is natural, which amplifies your interest to greater extents. A must read book for everyone.
